Imagine RIT attendees assemble Tiger with Tapecon printed technologies

In preparation for Imagine RIT 2017, Tapecon’s engineering department worked with RIT’s AMPrint Center to plan a project that festival attendees could participate with and learn more about our company’s capabilities.  The objective was to create an RIT Tiger with light-up eyes powered by electronics printing, provided by Tapecon.

The Imagine RIT Tiger was first printed on stock paper at the AMPrint Center at RIT, and then sent to Tapecon, where conductive silver ink was used to screen print circuitry on the back side of the tiger.  Tapecon also screen printed registration marks for positioning of the battery.  Once screen printing of the electronic conductive ink was completed, the Tigers were returned to the AMPrint Center where they were laser cut and batteries supplied by Blue Spark Technologies were installed.  Upon manufacturing completion, the Tigers awaited assembly by attendees of the Imagine RIT festival.

The day of the fest, assembly of the Tiger included:

  • Attaching a low profile Blue Spark battery
  • 2 LED light bulbs for eyes
  • Conductive Tape

After assembly, attendees were able to press together the tiger’s tail which completed the printed circuit and watched the printed tigers’ eyes light up.
